Every tax dollar should be treated with the same care as a family's household budget. Residents work hard for their money. They expect City Hall to set clear priorities, spend responsibly, and demonstrate value before asking for more. Respecting taxpayers isn't about saying no to every project. It's about making sure every dollar delivers measurable value to the community.
Before asking taxpayers to pay more, City Hall should first demonstrate that it is making the most of the resources it already has. It's time for an independent operational review of City Hall. Not to cut services, but to identify inefficiencies, eliminate duplication, modernize processes, and ensure taxpayers receive the best possible value for every dollar spent. If families are expected to find efficiencies in their household budgets, City Hall should be willing to do the same.
Every major spending decision should answer a few simple questions. What problem are we solving? What will it cost? How will we measure success? Who is accountable if it doesn't work? And just as importantly, what project are we choosing not to fund instead? Every decision has a cost, even the ones we don't see.
Respecting taxpayers isn't about spending less. It's about spending smarter. Good government invests where it matters, measures results, and continually looks for better ways to deliver services. Responsible spending builds public confidence and helps keep future tax increases as low as reasonably possible.
