Open Government. Clear Decisions. Measurable Results.
Government works best when people understand how decisions are made. Residents deserve to know what problem City Hall is trying to solve, what evidence supports a decision, what success looks like, and how results will be measured. Transparency builds trust, and accountability keeps that trust.
Too often, public engagement begins after staff have already developed a preferred solution. By then, residents are invited to comment, but many feel the important decisions have already been made. By the time the public is asked for input, the train has already left the station. I believe meaningful public engagement should happen earlier, while ideas are still being shaped and before decisions are effectively made.
Accountability doesn't end once a project is approved. Council should regularly review whether major initiatives are delivering the results they promised. If something isn't working, we should be willing to adjust course rather than simply continue down the same path.
Good government isn't about making everyone happy. It's about making informed decisions, explaining them openly, engaging the public early, and being accountable for the outcome.
